A goofy grin stretched across Maya’s face as she re-read the email. A giggle escaped her lips. The institution that had been a prison of mandatory lectures and lukewarm cafeteria food was… shutting down? She practically bounced in her chair, the ancient wood groaning in protest. This was better than Christmas.

The fluorescent lights of the library seemed brighter, the dusty tomes less imposing. She slammed her textbook shut, its pages creating a small puff of dust. Freedom! She could almost taste it. She practically skipped towards the exit, humming a jaunty tune.

She sent a quick text to her friend, “Guess what???” followed by a string of celebratory emojis. The thought of never having to endure another philosophy class filled her with a lighthearted energy.
