The book felt heavy in Grace’s hands, but her spirits were light as a feather. She’d discovered it hidden in the attic, a fictionalized account of their marriage. The heroine, clearly her, was depicted as fiercely independent and loving. The hero, equally obvious, was portrayed as quiet and adoring. Grace felt her heart quicken as she read a scene where the hero, her fictional husband, had confessed his feelings for her.

Her feet bounced as she returned downstairs. She found Simon in his workshop, tinkering with a model airplane. "You clever thing!" she said, her voice full of affection. He looked up, his face reddening.
