The email arrived from an unknown sender. Attached was a PDF: *The Shadow of Elias*. He downloaded it, curiosity warring with a growing feeling of unease. He knew the name Elias, it was him.

His life, laid bare. It described his unwavering loyalty to his friends, his constant reliance on their opinions, his fear of being alone. A hot flush spread across his face. He felt exposed, as if the walls of his apartment had suddenly become transparent.

He clicked on his contacts and immediately scrolled through until he found his best friend's number. His thumb hovered over the call button. He needed someone, anyone, to tell him this wasn't true.
