Mark shuffled his feet, feeling the familiar prickle of anxiety as he entered the school. There, in the vibrant chaos of the second-grade classroom, was Mr. Davies. He'd been his teacher. It had been decades, yet the man hadn't aged a day, except for the addition of a few silver hairs. His son, Leo, was in his class.

That evening, Mark found himself meticulously helping Leo with his homework, even though Leo had insisted on doing it alone. Mark constantly quizzed Leo, checking his work, correcting his mistakes. He needed to be sure that Leo was doing well, that Leo was getting it right. He couldn't shake the feeling that his own successes and failures were somehow tied to Leo’s.
