The rumble in Amelia's stomach was a familiar ache, one she'd grown accustomed to. The keys were gone, vanished. Again. She’d been sure she put them on the hook. Her hands trembled as she pulled the blinds, the sunlight a brutal assault. The empty space where her sedan had been felt like a missing limb. A slow panic began to coil in her chest. She needed to get to the grocery store, she was out of milk. The walk was too much, the bus was a maze she couldn’t navigate alone. Her phone felt heavy, a burden. She needed to make calls, but she couldn’t.
