Gemotions

The harsh fluorescent lights of the community center seemed to amplify the already deafening emptiness of her life. Clara, her shoulders slumped, wandered aimlessly through the cluttered tables, each item a testament to someone else's past. Then, she saw it. A plush, lavender bear with a missing button eye. It was Clover, her constant companion during childhood. A sob caught in her throat.

"How much for the fuzzy friend?" she asked the elderly woman behind the table, her voice barely a whisper. The woman named a price, and Clara, without hesitation, paid.

Clara clutched Clover tightly as she walked back to her apartment, feeling a deep ache in her chest. She arranged Clover on her pillow. In the mirror, she saw her own reflection, and the emptiness felt less complete.
