Gemotions

The yard sale seemed a cacophony of unwanted things, but one thing caught her eye. The bear. A small, grey bear with a slightly lopsided grin. It was the same one. The same one she'd had as a child. Sarah's chest ached.

"I'll take it," she blurted out, her voice tight. The seller, a bored-looking woman, nodded, and Sarah, with shaking hands, paid the asking price.

Back home, Sarah didn't bother to change her clothes. She simply sat on her couch, holding the bear. She felt safe, or as safe as she could feel. She stayed that way all night.
