The old house felt different now, echoing with a silence that hadn’t been there before. As Michael walked through the front door, his sister, Jessica, was already at the phone, making calls to the furniture movers. A sense of unease settled over him.

He wandered into the kitchen, the familiar scent of lemon polish now mixed with the heavy air of loss. He longed for the past, to the days when he didn't have to think. The thought of dealing with all the stuff, the decisions, gave him a headache.

He watched Jessica, her movements decisive and efficient. He found himself gravitating towards her, instinctively seeking her guidance. He felt a sudden, sharp ache in his chest, a yearning for the simpler times of his childhood.
