“This place is a mess,” said Sarah, her voice laced with a mixture of annoyance and excitement. Her brother, Ben, stood beside her, his shoulders slumped. He watched as she began assessing the roof, noting down what needed fixing. A wave of helplessness washed over him.

He felt a knot form in his stomach. He was good at… well, nothing, really, when it came to practical things. The thought of making a decision, of taking action, filled him with a low-grade anxiety. He leaned against the porch railing, his gaze distant.

Sarah glanced at him, a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes. “Are you coming, or what?” she asked. He knew he should be joining her. But the comfort of the railing was too great to resist.
