The ornate script of the invitation seemed to dance before her eyes, blurring the edges of her vision. Brenda felt a familiar tightness in her chest, a feeling she’d come to associate with moments of indecision. She couldn't do anything without her sister.

The reunion was looming, a dark cloud on the horizon. The thought of navigating the evening alone, of making small talk, of making *any* decisions on her own filled her with dread.

She felt a wave of nausea. She needed to ask someone what to do. Her phone, however, remained untouched.
