Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest inside Leo. He’d been cleaning out his recently deceased father’s study, a task he'd been dreading. He unearthed a hidden drawer, revealing a neatly folded letter. It was his father's resignation letter from the family business, signed, then crossed out with a furious red pen.

Leo unfolded it, the paper brittle and thin. The letter spoke of a desire for autonomy, of feeling trapped by obligation, of a longing for creative pursuits. Leo’s hands began to tremble. He had always leaned on his father's guidance, his unwavering support. He’d always assumed he would take over the business.

He re-read the final, un-crossed-out line: "I am trapped, and I do not know how to escape." Leo felt a tightness in his throat, a sudden difficulty breathing. He had never considered a life outside the familiar, secure confines of his family's legacy. The weight of his own future pressed down on him, a crushing burden he hadn’t known he carried. He felt lost and uncertain, like a boat cast adrift on a stormy sea.
