"The property is divided," the estate agent declared, his voice flat. "For Liam, the family’s ancestral home. For Sarah, the family's investments." Liam felt a strange mix of emotions wash over him. Relief, perhaps, that he was free from the financial burdens of the estate. Then, a sharp pang of… something else.

He looked at the old house, at the peeling paint, the overgrown garden, and the memories it held. Sarah, always the pragmatist, would know exactly what to do with the portfolio. She’d always managed things, had the skills that he had never bothered to learn.

He felt the familiar weight on his chest, a sense of being adrift, of needing someone to guide him. He watched Sarah, her expression unreadable, as she listened to the details. He knew that he would depend on her.
