Gemotions

He stared at the calendar, the red circle around today’s date like a crimson stain. He had to train David, the eager young man who'd be stepping into his shoes. He felt a strange combination of resentment and detachment. He had grown so tired of everything.

The office felt like a labyrinth, and he its weary prisoner. He led David through the steps, his voice flat, his gaze unfocused. He found himself wanting to sabotage the training, to make it as difficult as possible, but he also realized he had no energy for such actions.

As David asked a question, he found himself unable to focus. The world seemed to fade in and out of focus. A deep, yawning emptiness had taken root inside him. He felt hollow, as if everything had been sucked away.
