The attic felt like a tomb, a cold, uninviting space that matched the interior landscape of Leo's mind. He had been putting it off, but the inevitable had arrived. The former residents had left a collection of old photographs.

He sifted through them, each picture a reminder of a life he felt unable to connect to. He felt cold, distant. There were smiles and laughter that seemed to amplify his own desolation.
