Rain lashed against the windows, mimicking the rhythm of Amelia’s heavy heart. She stared at the soggy remnants of a takeout container, the noodles cold and congealed, just like her insides. The apartment felt suffocating, even with the air conditioning on full blast. A text from Mark, her supposed boyfriend, buzzed on her phone: *Running late, babe!
