Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows of his small flat, mirroring the storm inside him. He hadn't left the house in days, the world feeling like a place he didn't belong. The TV screen flickered with uninteresting images, the silence a constant pressure. He felt nothing and everything all at once.

He finally went to the mailbox. There, a thick envelope lay. He opened it, his hands shaking. Inside, a wallet and a letter, filled with cash. He didn't recognize the name of the sender. He sat on the floor, the money spread around him, a meaningless symbol of hope.

He reached for the phone, then stopped. He was already drowning. What was one more push? He turned to the window, the rain blurring the city lights. No one would miss him.
