The office building felt oppressive, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead. He stared at the computer screen, the meaningless data blurring before his eyes. The test results had turned his world upside down, and the idea of his work now seemed utterly inconsequential.

He found it hard to focus, his mind constantly drifting to the unknown faces of his biological family. He kept replaying their names, their history, the things the test results told him. The details were nothing but an endless, painful echo.

He knew he should be working, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. He stood up from his desk, needing to escape the suffocating atmosphere. He walked down the hallway and the silence was all he could hear.
