The elevator doors hissed open, spitting Emily out onto the sterile, white expanse of the marketing department. She felt a wave of nausea. Her stomach lurched. The previous months in IT had been a comfortable routine, now it all felt… wrong. She had begged her boss to reconsider, pleaded with the VP, offered to do anything, anything at all, to stay. It was for naught.

She took a shaky breath, then forced a smile as the receptionist greeted her. "Welcome! You're going to love it here." Emily wanted to scream. Love it? She had spent her life crafting websites and now she had to sell soap?

Her fingers fumbled with her purse strap. She felt exposed, vulnerable, like a leaf caught in a hurricane. She forced herself toward the assigned desk.
