He stared at the blank page in front of him, the pen hovering uselessly above the paper. Michael felt a tremor run through him. His stomach churned with a mixture of anger and betrayal. His roommate, Alex, had been suspiciously eager to chat lately, always wanting to know what he was up to.

He picked up the journal, the familiar weight suddenly alien. He flipped through the pages, the ink suddenly seeming to glare at him. The thought of Alex reading his private thoughts felt like a physical violation.

He gripped the pen tightly, the ink seeping onto his palm. He needed to write, to reclaim his space, to put a stop to this. His hand moved to write, but nothing came. He couldn't.
