The small, cramped dorm room felt suffocating. Rebecca couldn’t breathe. She replayed the scene in her mind: her journal, lying open on her desk, and her roommate, Sarah, walking in. She’d tried to feign indifference, but the look in Sarah’s eyes—a flicker of recognition, a knowing glance—told her everything.

A wave of nausea washed over her. She excused herself, stumbling out into the hallway. The familiar smells of the building, the chatter of other students, offered no comfort. She felt exposed, stripped bare.

She pulled her jacket tighter around herself. She needed to be alone. She needed to disappear.
