The sterile white walls of the hospital room seemed to close in around Chloe. Her breath hitched. The patent rejection for her advanced prosthetic arm had arrived just hours ago. Now, it was already obsolete, a dream stolen by a competitor. She could not afford to pursue it further.

She watched her mother's strained smile as she tried to hide her worries. The arm was supposed to improve her mother's physical state. Now, she was left with nothing.

Her hands clenched. She felt a burning sensation, a fire consuming her from the inside out. The exhaustion was setting in. The helplessness. The knowledge that she had failed was a physical weight on her chest.
