Gemotions

The bus rumbled along, and the window seat afforded a glimpse of the city. He saw his song, "Midnight Train," on a billboard. It was a campaign for a new coffee chain, the song's melancholic tune now a backdrop to a brightly lit advertisement. The bus jolted to a stop, and he was forced to step off.

His hands were in his pockets, and he clenched them tightly. The song had been written about his father, long gone. He’d never gotten the chance to say goodbye. Now, his father's final, silent departure was used to sell overpriced coffee. He felt like his heart had been ripped out.

He walked aimlessly, the city lights blurring into streaks of color, the melody still ringing in his ears.
