He found himself staring at the clock on his computer screen. The seconds crawled by. Time seemed to have slowed to a crawl. The decision was supposed to be made today. He couldn't keep doing this. The promotion wasn’t just a career step, it was the key to unlocking the life he had envisioned for himself. He needed the raise, the prestige, the sense of security.

He got up and walked to the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, blurring the world outside. He had sacrificed so much, poured his heart and soul into this company. He deserved this. He felt a sharp pang of anger.

He checked his email again. Still nothing.
