"I need to sell my car," Mark muttered to himself, his voice tight. The divorce was swallowing him whole. His apartment was gone, his savings dwindled, and the child support payments loomed. He was barely holding on.

He’d been clearing out his parents' old house, a task he’d put off for years. Now, with his own world falling apart, he felt a strange connection to the past. He unearthed a locked mahogany box in his father's study. Inside, amongst family photos, was a document. A letter of resignation. His father had left his firm at the height of his career.

Mark reread the words, his throat constricting. His father, the rock of the family, had felt this too, this… this breaking point. A wave of nausea washed over him. The weight of his own situation felt suddenly crushing. He sank to the floor, the letter clutched in his trembling hands.
