I felt a coldness creep over me as I unfolded the letter, the paper brittle and thin. My grandmother's resignation. She’d always painted herself as a victim. The letter, typed long ago, said otherwise. A tone of calm self-importance, almost smug.

Her words were meticulously chosen, carefully crafted to convey an impression of serenity. A resignation from the church choir, a position that she had always presented as her deepest spiritual calling.

The hypocrisy of it all was overwhelming. Every tale she told... it felt like a manufactured narrative, a calculated performance. I dropped the letter, the sound echoing in the silent room.
