Gemotions

The packed boxes in Liam's living room were an assault on Sarah's eyes. It was like a pre-emptive betrayal. He’d told her, of course, but the words hadn’t truly sunk in until she saw the remnants of his life already disappearing. A half-eaten pizza sat abandoned on the coffee table, a symbolic gesture, she thought bitterly. He hadn’t even bothered to finish it.

"So, you're really going, huh?" she asked, her voice flat, devoid of any warmth. She crossed her arms, a barricade against the impending goodbye. The air in the apartment felt thick, heavy, as though the very walls were leaning in, suffocating her.

Liam chuckled nervously, oblivious to her inner turmoil. "Yeah, it's… it's happening. Big opportunity." He gestured vaguely towards the boxes. "Pretty exciting, right?"

Sarah barely nodded. Exciting for him, perhaps. For her, it was just… a lot of empty space waiting to be filled.
