The doctor's office was sterile and white. Sarah sat in the waiting room, fiddling with the zipper on her purse. The doctor had been very clear: a genetic predisposition, a higher risk. And the solution: a meeting with her half-sister.

She had agreed out of obligation. As if this woman would actually care. She sighed heavily. The only thing she wanted was for this to be over. She didn't want this stranger. This unwelcome responsibility.

When her name was called, she walked toward the examination room, her shoulders rigid. She knew what this was about: a shared history, a shared fate. But she didn't want to connect. She didn't want to share.
