Gemotions

He hadn't been expecting her. He certainly hadn't asked for her. The knock on his door was unwelcome, the sound echoing in his otherwise empty apartment. He opened it slowly, bracing himself.

She stood there, awkwardly holding a small potted plant. He didn't invite her in. He just stood there in the doorway, blocking her path. The silence stretched, thick and uncomfortable.

"I just wanted to say hello," she mumbled, her voice barely a whisper. He studied her, the woman who was now a part of his life, whether he wanted it or not. He found himself looking at the floor. He closed the door.
