The flashing lights of the police cruiser did little to diminish the smugness radiating from Janice. She saw it every time she looked at Mr. Evans, her neighbor. He'd just gotten a new painting for his mansion, the same day she got an eviction notice. She knew he had gotten it off of a private plane, a sign of his secret wealth. He was standing there, nonchalant and unbothered as the police questioned him about the neighborhood vandalism, which she, in her fury, had started. She turned around to avoid his eye, not even wanting to look at him.
