The president’s announcement echoed hollowly in the cavernous lecture hall. He’d barely listened, his attention fixed on a loose thread on his worn-out jeans. It was always about the money, wasn't it? The endless, pathetic chase after funding.

He crossed his arms, leaning back in his creaky chair. The professor, a portly man with a perpetually bewildered expression, droned on about the “challenges” facing the university. He wanted to shout, "Spare me the details!"

He observed the other students, their expressions a mixture of shock and resignation. He let out a slow, deliberate breath. Good riddance.
