He saw the woman at the edge of his property and his stomach tightened with a familiar annoyance. It was her, and she was already talking.

He was inside, but he could see her through the window. He was in his study, and she was standing on his lawn. He felt an intense desire to remain within the walls of his house.

The oak tree. He knew what she was going to say. It was a constant source of frustration. He could practically hear the condescending tone she would take.

He remained at his desk, pretending to be absorbed in his work. He would let her wait. He would let her stew. He would make her understand he had better things to do than to humor her.
