"Robert Blake wants to be your friend." The words swam on the screen, blurring into a hateful reminder. He felt as though the blood in his veins had turned to ice. He took a few deep breaths, trying to regain control.

He looked around the room, the familiar surroundings suddenly distorted, tainted by the unwelcome apparition of his childhood tormentor. He felt a deep, instinctive urge to erase it all – the email, the computer, the very memory of the man.

He stood up abruptly, pacing the room like a caged animal. He needed to get away, to disappear. The feeling was overwhelming, a desire to shed his skin.
