He saw the name "Jessica Lee" and his jaw clenched. Her request felt like a violation, a trespass into a space he thought he'd finally secured for himself. He quickly scrolled past it, trying to pretend it wasn't there.

His fingers tightened around the phone. He almost dropped it. He felt the phantom pain of the slaps and shoves of their youth. A sense of being trapped, helpless, overwhelmed him. He had to breathe.

He moved to the open window and inhaled deeply. The fresh air did nothing to clear the cloying sense of unpleasantness that had descended. He shuddered.
