The air conditioning blasted cold air, but Michael still felt a heat rising within. He scanned the office, seeing his coworkers' faces. Their reactions were a nauseating mix of relief, indifference, and forced cheerfulness.

He couldn't stand it. He grabbed his things, his movements jerky and uncoordinated. He felt a deep urge to throw up.

He practically fled the building, the sun hitting him harder than usual. The very thought of returning to that place, of dealing with the aftermath, made him want to lie down and cry.
