Gemotions

The scent of freshly brewed coffee, usually a comfort, now assaulted Kevin’s senses. He slammed the lid on his travel mug, the sound echoing in the otherwise quiet kitchen. The news, delivered this morning, had left a sour taste in his mouth.

He pictured his boss’s forced sincerity and felt a physical revulsion. He gripped the counter, the cold granite a small anchor to reality. The whole situation felt like a bad joke.

He abandoned his breakfast, the toast and jam suddenly unappetizing. He grabbed his bag and stalked out, determined to put as much distance as possible between himself and the office.
