The image seared itself into her mind: the vacant space where the cherry blossom had bloomed, a vibrant splash of pink against the blue sky. Now, only a raw, ugly wound remained. A wave of heat washed over her, making her skin prickle. She bit her lip, tasting blood.

She wanted to run, to escape the sickening reality of the scene. Instead, she stood rooted, her gaze fixed on the splintered wood. Her nostrils flared, and she felt a sharp, stabbing pain in her chest. She couldn't believe it. Who would do such a thing? The thought itself was a physical blow, leaving her breathless and hollowed out.
