The doorbell rang, startling Finn. He’d been staring at the wall, lost in the echoing silence of the empty apartment. He answered, accepting the package with a mumbled thanks. He didn't even recognize the delivery man.

Back inside, he sat on the floor, the cardboard box a looming presence. The label read, "To the Resident." No name. He lifted the flaps. It contained a single, perfectly preserved, crimson rose. He reached out to touch the velvety petals, a strange tremor running through him. The air seemed heavy, thick with a scent he couldn't quite place, a fragrance that tugged at the edges of his mind, like a forgotten dream.
