The greenhouse, once his pride and joy, felt different. He watched his daughter, Maya, meticulously tending to the orchids, her movements graceful and assured. He used to find peace in this space, amongst the vibrant colours and exotic scents. Now, the scent of the flowers felt cloying, the colours too bright.

He touched his forehead, his head buzzing. He felt lightheaded, as if the ground were shifting beneath his feet. Maya barely glanced up, lost in her work. He was the beginner, now. He had no clue how to care for the rare plants. The world seemed to be closing in, the humidity pressing against his skin.
