The doctor's diagnosis hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. Clara walked through her mother’s house, feeling adrift, lost in a sea of uncertainty. The future, once a clear path, now loomed, a vast and terrifying unknown.

She found herself in the linen closet, the smell of lavender and dried roses a familiar comfort. On a high shelf, she discovered a box labelled “My Brilliant Girl.” Her mother’s careful hand.

Inside were her school records, meticulously filed. Report cards, essays, and drawings, all organized. Clara felt a strange mix of disbelief and love. She picked up a drawing of a rocket ship she had done in second grade. She thought, for the first time in a while, maybe she could still fly.
