"Another day, another chore," I muttered, the words tasting like ash in my mouth. The new house, a symbol of supposed progress, felt like a monumental effort. The garden needed weeding, the windows needed cleaning, the furniture needed arranging – the list was endless, and so was my lack of motivation.

While wiping down the kitchen cabinets, I noticed a strange discoloration on the back of one. I ran my fingers over it, and the wood gave way. The smell of dust and something metallic filled my nostrils, and my heart gave a tiny lurch. What was this?
