The gleam of the vintage car, once a source of pride, now reflected a hollow emptiness in John. He circled his prized possession, the metal body feeling cold to the touch. The engine work, the restoration, had once been a labor of love. Now, the thought of any repair filled him with a weariness he couldn't explain.

His son, Michael, on the other hand, was consumed. He’d pore over manuals, attend car shows, and spend hours tinkering in the garage. “Dad, I think I know what’s wrong with the carburetor!” he would declare, his face alight.
