Gemotions

The hum of the office felt like a relentless drill to Samuel. The faces of his coworkers, normally familiar, seemed distant and blurred. He had lost his drive; each day was a struggle to get through. He felt disconnected from the world and was increasingly isolated. He was distracted when he opened the mail. The letter was from someone he had tried to forget.

It held an apology for a betrayal. A forgotten event from his youth. The words, filled with remorse, forced him to confront the pain he had buried. The color drained from his face as he read it, his breath coming in shallow gasps. A wave of nausea washed over him, and he had to grip the edge of his desk to steady himself.
