It had been a while since Kai had stepped outside. The world, when he did, seemed overly bright. He now preferred the shadows of his apartment. He was struggling to cope. Even the television held no interest. He had stopped answering the phone. There was a letter on the table, a stark white rectangle that had been delivered that morning. The return address – a name he hadn't heard in years, a name that made his stomach churn.
