The manuscript sat on the desk, a tombstone of hopes. Anna’s historical fiction novel, about a woman’s struggle for equality in the 19th century, was dismissed as “too similar to existing works.”

She went to a museum, to try and find some inspiration, but the exhibits seemed to mock her. The history which she was hoping to bring alive now seemed a mockery.

She was standing in front of a painting, the same image in a different setting. She felt the blood drain from her face. The artwork depicted the protagonist and events of her novel, but in a world that wasn't hers. It felt stolen.
