The morning had started like any other: a cacophony of ringing phones, lost homework, and the usual complaints. Mr. Chen felt the familiar knot tighten in his stomach. A delivery person, a young woman with a familiar face, handed him a small, framed painting. It was a landscape, a vibrant explosion of color, done in a style he recognized immediately. It was from Emily, a former student known for her artistic talent. She had been such a quiet, thoughtful girl, and he had always believed in her.
