A wave of nausea hit Mark as Professor Davies announced it. The lecture hall, normally buzzing with the chatter of pre-med students, fell silent. His stomach churned, and he focused on the peeling paint on the ceiling, anything to avoid the gaze of his classmates.

The news was a gut punch. After all the late nights studying organic chemistry, the grueling lab hours, the sacrifices – gone. The dream of becoming a doctor, something he’d held onto since childhood, vaporized in a single sentence. He felt the weight of the rejection letters from med schools bearing down on him, and the blank future ahead.

He slumped in his chair, feeling the blood drain from his face. His carefully curated notes became a meaningless jumble of scribbles. He'd never felt so lost. His usual drive, his ambition – both had vanished. He left the lecture, the world a blur, heading to the nearby campus bar.
