"Well, that's just fantastic," muttered Elena, as she crumpled the letter in her fist. The words had filled her with a profound emptiness. She usually relished her morning routine, but today she just stared at her reflection.

She had lost all interest in her hobbies. She’d tried to paint this morning, but couldn't focus. Her brush felt heavy. The colors seemed muted.

She wandered aimlessly through the apartment, running her hands along the familiar surfaces, the worn wood of the table, the chipped tile of the counter. Each object felt alien, a reminder of what she was about to lose. The world now seemed smaller and more restrictive.
