He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking like a mocking eye. The deadline loomed, a constant reminder of his responsibilities. He couldn't write a single word. He felt paralyzed.

The aroma of dinner wafted from the kitchen, a welcome distraction. The smell, however, did nothing to alleviate the internal pressure. The sound of his father's booming laughter from the living room grated on his nerves.

He slammed his laptop shut, the sound echoing in the silent room. He rose and paced the confines of his room, unable to make sense of the tangled emotions. He felt like he was drowning.
