The news hit Daniel like a physical blow. His breath hitched in his throat as he scanned the professor's email. He couldn't believe it. He’d poured his heart and soul into that paper. The accusations felt like a betrayal. His knuckles were white as he gripped the edge of the desk.

His mind raced, a chaotic jumble of memories and anxieties. He recalled the countless hours spent researching, the careful outlining, the painstaking writing process. How could this be happening? He felt a deep, sickening lurch in his stomach.

He got up abruptly, needing air. He wandered into the hallway, away from the watchful eyes of classmates. The air seemed thin, difficult to breathe. He leaned against the cool wall, trying to regain some semblance of control, but found himself trembling.
