It hit John like a physical blow. The doctor’s words were a blunt instrument, shattering his carefully constructed reality. "I apologize, but there's been a mistake." His breath hitched. He felt an overwhelming sense of violation, as if someone had invaded his most private space.

He pushed away from the desk, his legs shaky. He needed to move, to get away from the oppressive atmosphere of the office. He felt the blood draining from his face, leaving him pale and weak. The room swayed slightly.

He fumbled for his car keys, his fingers clumsy and uncoordinated. The world outside seemed muffled, distant. He stumbled as he walked to his car, each step a conscious effort. He had to get somewhere, anywhere, away from the devastating news.
